Faye G. Fox, 82, formerly of Asheville, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at her residence at Preston Place II in Kingsport, TN.
Faye was preceded in death by Graham Fox, Sr., her husband of 58 years and their eldest son, Donald Fox.
Faye is survived by her daughter, Vikki Welch and husband, Jim, of Kingsport, TN; sons, Graham Fox, Jr., and wife, Grace, of Florence, AL, and John Fox and wife, Julie, of Raleigh; six grandchildren, James Welch, III, and wife Elizabeth of Huntersville, Brynn Welch of Janesville, WI, Burgess Fox of Florence, AL, Frances Fox of Charleston, SC, Sidney Fox and husband Michael Coysh, of Raleigh, and Andrew Fox, also of Raleigh. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Gibson of Decatur, GA; four great-grandchildren, Aidan and Connor Welch, and Lucy Jane and Callum Coysh; three sisters-in-law, Katie Keever, Helen Fox, and Vikki Fox; brother-in-law, Clay Dean Fox and wife Lib; and an aunt, Barbara Wright.
Faye lived almost 80 years in the Oakley community and played the piano at Oakley Baptist Church for 40 years. She never knew a stranger and was well-known in the community for her green thumb. Faye's front yard boasted some of the prettiest roses and iris in all of Asheville.
Faye retired from the National Weather Service after 30 years of service. She was an avid fan of her boys' baseball teams. Despite being a working mom, Faye always found time to be a homeroom mother for her children's classes and loved to brag about her children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 20 at Oakley Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tom Pierce officiating. The family will receive guests in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Sharon Durnin and her staff at Preston Place II in Kingsport, TN, who became part of Faye's extended family during the last three years of her life. They loved her, and she loved them right back.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Oakley Baptist Church, 70 Fairview Rd., Asheville, NC 28803, or to Preston Place II, 2303 N John B. Dennis, Kingsport, TN 37660.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
