Clarence Calvin Corn
Arden ~ Clarence Calvin "Nubbin" Corn, 86, of Arden, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Oaks at Sweeten Creek surrounded by his loving family.

A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Wiley Otis and Maggie Ellen Ducker Corn. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Harvey and Ken.

Mr. Corn proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for a total of 30 years (23 active duty and 7 in the reserves), achieving the rank of gunnery sergeant. Following his time in the service, he and Virginia enjoyed the Easter egg hunts, Christmas parties and 4th of July celebrations that they arranged for the neighborhood children at their home. He also enjoyed time spent mowing their property.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Crabtree Corn; two daughters, Sharon K. Corn of Arden and Linda Corn Heamon and her husband, Scott Coffey of Fletcher; one sister, Frances Corn Briggs of Arden, as well as his special pet friends, Andy and Lightning.

A military graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 25 at Roberts Memorial Park and will be officiated by Rev. Ray Hipps. Mr. Corn will lie in state at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Sunday between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
