James Hugh Shetley, 98, of Candler, died on Friday, August 3, 2012 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.

He was the son of the late Robert and D'etta Sexton Shetley.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy and was awarded the Victory Medal and the American Area Ribbon.

He retired from Trailways Busline after 34 years of service. He was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church for 49 years.

Mr. Shetley was preceded in death by a son, James Shetley, Jr., three brothers, and three sisters.

Mr. Shetley is survived by his wife Margaret Riddle Shetley; sons, Charles Eric Shetley (Martha), Steven David Shetley (Debra), and Brian Wesley Shetley (Debbie), all of Candler; six grandchildren, Melanie Shetley Wood (Mark), of Lexington, KY, MaryBeth Shetley Price (Sam), of Lynchburg, VA, Laura Shetley Taylor (Dane), of Boston, MA, Megan Shetley Whitted (Jeremy), of Candler, Steven Shetley, Jr., of Candler, and Brittany Jordan Shetley, of Gastonia; four great-grandchildren, Raegan Elizabeth Price, Kaylee Brooke Whitted, Makena Ruth Whitted, and Easton James-Seth Wood; God-daughter, Leah Willett Brown (William) and beloved children, Cameron and Collin Brown, all of Asheville; very special and loved friend, Peggy Moore Willett, of Asheville; and three step-granddaughters, Tisha Collins (Dan), Shalina Little (Matt), and Chelsie Clayton.

A funeral service for Mr. Shetley will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at West Asheville Baptist Church with Pastor Stan Welch officiating. Entombment will follow at the Pisgah View Memorial Park Mausoleum.

His family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
