Ruby M. Embler, 83, of Alexander, died Sunday, August 19, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.
A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Talitha and Otto McGalliard.
Mrs. Embler is survived by her husband, Leroy Embler, 92, of Alexander, NC; two daughters Patricia Wagstaff and her husband James Wagstaff of Charleston, SC, and Sandra Embler and her husband Lt. Col. Michael Shavers of Olney, MD; one sister, Pauline Payne of Marion, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
Ruby was a lifetime resident of Western North Carolina where she will be remembered for her ability to "work with her hands," by quilting, painting, or gardening and traveling with her family. She was a 1950 graduate of the Memorial Mission School of Nursing and was a Mission Belle. She served in the Nurse Cadet Corps, and later worked as a nurse at Memorial Mission Hospital and the Buncombe County Health Department.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Ashelawn Garden of Memory.
Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
