Carolyn R. Penley, 80, of Fox Drive, Asheville, died on Friday, October 30 2009, at St. Joseph Campus, Mission Hospitals.
Mrs. Penley was an Asheville native and was a daughter of the late James Lawrence and Grace Owenby Earwood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Penley, who died in 1982, and son, Terry Harvey Penley.
Mrs. Penley worked for 25 years at Eaton Industries as an inspector. She attended Gashes Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Darlene Brady, Donna Kemper, Kathy Shelton and husband Glenn, Betty Stevenson, and Karen Penley; son, John H. Penley; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mrs. Penley will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. Interment will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
