Kay Francis Crowder, 66, of Candler, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at John F. Keever Solace Center.

A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Clarence Aaron and Ethel Morgan Crowder. He was also preceded in death by five siblings, Milton, Thomas, Virgil and Dorothy Crowder and Joretta Guy.

Mr. Crowder was a member of White Rock Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the Board of Deacons. He retired in 2002 from BASF, served with the Upper Hominy Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and was a graduate of Western Carolina University.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Bishop Crowder; a daughter, Connie Gentry of Asheville; two grandchildren, Bill Gentry and Lee Gentry of Asheville and a sister, Minnie Morgan and husband Frank of Candler, two brothers, Dale Crowder and wife Snow of Candler and Ted Crowder and wife Betty Lou of Angier, NC; sisters-in-law, Irene Crowder and Betty Jean Crowder and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Oliver, Greg Metcalf and Les Schofield officiating. Burial will follow at White Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home and request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to White Rock Baptist Church, PO Box 1277, Candler, NC 28715.
